Twitter is a great social media platform for promoting your brand—and it can be used to boost your following on other platforms too.

But how do you maximize your Twitter following? We’ve put together a few tips to help you increase your Twitter followers.

1. Content
Content is obviously an important part of using any social media platform—and Twitter is no different. Make sure that you’re posting quality content at the right time. Use an app like Buffer (which has free or paid subscription options) to schedule posts for times when your audience is most likely to be online. It also doesn’t hurt to share content more than once. Twitter feeds are constantly updating and it’s easy to miss great posts. To avoid this, share your best content multiple times to make sure that your followers will see it and hopefully give it a retweet.

2. Don’t be shy
Engage with other Twitter users!  Don’t be scared to start up a conversation with a similar brand or influencer, or to comment on relevant news/trending topics. You could even try live-tweeting something relevant to your brand, like a sports event. Don’t be shy with your retweets, either. By retweeting meaningful content from the leaders in your industry, you are legitimizing your own brand and associating yourself with these reputable figures.

3. Don’t be scared to follow other accounts

Following other members of your industry, similar brands, influencers and so on is an effective way of getting your brand out there (and makes retweeting that much easier). In the #Discover section of your dashboard, Twitter will recommend various accounts for you to follow. These are good ones to start with and will definitely be useful when you are looking for quality content to retweet later. You could also think about following users who follow your followers or who follow similar accounts to yours. These users will have similar interests and are more likely to engage with your content as a result.

4. Make the most of Twitter’s features

Twitter has plenty of cool features that you should be making the most of. We’ve already talked about retweets, but liking posts is also important. If you like something and it fits within your brand and image, don’t be scared to hit the heart. You can also choose to pin a tweet to the top of your feed—choose something that you think is meaningful and gives other users a clear idea of what your account is all about.
